Cultured Fiji Live Rock - Sold by the pound

Cultured Fiji Live Rock - Sold by the pound

Our Cultured Live Rock is a man-made mixture of concrete, reef substrate, and reef-safe dye. The rock is constructed, molded into basic shapes, and placed in the ocean to culture for 2 years or more before being harvested. The result is rock with coralline algae growth as well as being biologically seeded with many of the same organisms as natural rock. Pieces range in size from 4"-6" balls to donut-shaped forms 8"-10" (selection will vary). The rock is clean and porous, and should be cured in the same manner as natural rock.

Solomon Island Live Rock - Sold by the pound

Solomon Island Live Rock - Sold by the pound

Solomon Island Rock and Pukani are very popular. They are very porous and beautifully shaped to add dimension and interest to your reef. The rock is clean and ranges in size from 6"-12" or larger. The shapes are formed from fossilized branching corals such as pocillopora and porites which fused together. Coralline growth will range from green to pink, purple red or orange. Though the rock is partially cured, we recommend that the rock be cured before being introduced into your tank.

Tonga Live Rock - Sold by the pound

Tonga Live Rock - Sold by the pound

Our Tonga/Kaelini Live Rock is partially cured in our holding tanks. The pieces vary in shape, each with lots of holes, bumps and/or flat areas for mounting corals. They range in size roughly 6"-12" long. A dense type of rock, Tonga is very solid, often made up of various fossilized coral formations. Coralline coloring may be purple, orange, red, and green though color may vary as the growth develops. We recommend that the rock be cured after its arrival to you prior to being introduced to your aquarium.

Premium Fiji Live Rock - 45 lb Box

Live Rock is used as a base in many saltwater reef or fish-only aquariums. Not only does it provide a more natural appearance than manufactered decorated but it also is populated by living organisms like crustaceans, algaes, and bacteria. These organisms and the minerals that make up the rock itself help to provide stability to the aquarium, give your tank residents a natural environment like that on the natural reefs, and provide a natural source of food for many marine organisms. Every type of live rock has a different appearance depending on the area it was harvested from. These different areas also mean different types of algae and organisms have populated the rock. Fiji Live Rock is the most "natural" rock we have available. It is often uncured, meaning there may still be larger organisms like sponges and algaes that have not died or decomposed. While thesse means you may have some unexpected bonuses that survive the curing process, it also means that this rock is not advised for established aquariums where decomposing organisms can affect water quality. The solid composition and fairly regular shape of these rocks makes it a good foundation to build upon in reef aquariums.

Cultured Fiji Live Rock has many of the same organisms as colonizing it as our Fiji Premium live rock. "Cultured" live rock like this variety is not composed of actual reef rocks. It is made from terrestrial sources - usually cement blocks - that have been placed and left in the oceans for several months or even years to give organisms a chance to colonize. This method of harvest has the least impact on natural coral reefs compared to other live rock harvesting methods. This type of rock has the most consistent formations and makes an excellent base to build upon for reef aquariums or fish-only aquariums where you have a custom look in mind.
